How to Donate Used Computers

Request for Corporate Computers

CompUtah

A coalition of business and community leaders working together to -

Ensure that all Utah families have affordable access to computer devices, internet access, and basic technical training.

The Challenge

More than 20,000 households in Utah do not have any computing device and over 60,000 households solely rely on smartphones as their computer.

This limits access to health, education, employment, civic engagement, and essential services found on the internet.

Goal

Actual and planned computers distributed

About 3000 refurbished computers were distributed in 2023. The goal is to increase the number of refurbished computer devices by 1000 units per year over the next two years.

The Coalition's approach to achieving its goal of technology accessibility and inclusion includes four key priorities:

·         Donations,

·         Refurbishing,

·         Distribution,

·         And training of basic computer skills

Donations

We invite business, school, and government leaders to make a commitment to help close the digital divide.  A commitment to provide a certain number of computer devices each month or each year is a good start.

Refurbishing

As needed, data on computer devices is destroyed, computers are upgraded to 8 GB ram and solid state drives, and Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11  Pro is installed.

Certified data destruction processes such as BitRaser are available when data security is a concern.

Distribution

All who qualify and are in need of a computer device should be given access to affordable technology.

Providing affordable technology to those in need opens the window to an expanding world of information, social inclusion, and lifelong learning.

Training

Navigating the world of computers can be daunting.  To address this need, many local organizations offer one-on-one training and group classes to help individuals overcome their initial apprehension and gain confidence to continue learning.
